François Cevert was a French car pilot who passed away in Watkins Glen, New York, on October 6, 1973. He was born in Paris on February 25, 1944. It has mostly consisted of races involving monoplaces and sports cars. In 1971, François Cevert, the 1968 Formula 3 champion from France, won the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Watkins Glen. In the early 1970s, it was thought to be the future of French international automotive competition.
In the first race of the year, he won the German GP on the Hockenheimring, and a month later on the Nurburgring, the international Eifel race. At the Jochen Rindt Memorial Trophy in Thruxton, near Andover, he finishes in fourth place. It wins another round of the Gran Premio Madunina in Vallelunga in the spring, which is not a championship match.
Some of his fellow race car pilot colleagues view him as a possible Formula 1 world champion. 1971: Deception of Title Hopes.
1971 saw François Cevert return to the Formula 2 championship, this time with the Tecno factory team, now supported by Elf, and co-driver Patrick Depailler. Even though it is implied in Formula 1, it is still admissible to the points in Formula 2. At the beginning of the season, Cevert is viewed by French media as one of the favorites to win the championship. An ideal position that fits the insider perfectly. The predictions made by Cevert are not fulfilled. Participating in ten of the eleven championship rounds and two championship qualifying events, he only managed to earn points in the first three rounds of competition.
After May, François Cevert never again appears in the points. According to the pilot, there has been a rise in technical pannes since the beginning of the summer, primarily due to Techno. There are multiple issues with the Ford engine made in Italy. Cevert wins the first round of the Mantorp Trophy at Mantorp Park in Sweden, but due to injuries to soupapes, he is not allowed to compete in the second round and is not included in the overall race ranking.
With 22 points, François Cevert is in fifth place in the F2 championship, while Patrick Depailler, his teammate, has no points.
In Formula 1, François finished 3rd with 26 points while his teammate Jackie Stewart finished as champion by dominating his competitors.
